"If someone who was once deaf for the entirety of her/his life was able to hear and asked you to play them a song, the first song they'd ever hear, which would you pick for them?" - oblivionjones

Whew. Goodness. I am going to have to think about this one for a while…

I would probably play “Death is the road to awe” from “The Fountain” soundtrack…or “Anja” by Karsh Kale.

I watched “My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding ” last night. I didn’t find that particular episode very bad. There is nothing inside of me that thinks the media would ever portray unbiased truth. Ever. Involving anything. I’m not gonna judge anyone depicted on the show. It’s just not…

There is just too much rubbish on TV. Not only do the producers cut and chop dialogue shamelessly to “fit” what it is that they wish to depict (which is often not always facts), but when they have a narrator explaining aspects of the scenes depicted, I would take what is being said with a grain-of-salt.

In the case of this show, the producers have scraped the bottom of the barrel in an effort to depict Rromani people as individuals who are ridiculous, “way-out-there”, flashy, and in-your-face. This is not an accurate depiction of a proud race of people who have been forced ‘down’ over eons of misnomers and ignorance to truth.

I am not quite sure what the TLC producers are trying to accomplish with their version of who the Rromani people are, but please be sure to note that this is not an accurate, across-the-board, representation.

The Learning Chanel, should be ashamed of themselves for the portrayal of a race of people (my people) who are still abused and discriminated against in shameless manner. Instead of attempting to portray the struggles and determination among Rroma who are attempting to make a positive difference, breaking stereotypes, or those attempting to etch out a life filled with tradition amongst the prejudices of society, TLC should actually do what the name of their network suggests, and educate people. They instead choose to fall into trashy reality rubbish that does nothing but waste one hour of valuable airtime each week. Shame!

Reblogged again for commentary.

Ill still pass on the judging. Period.

I also guess the person who wrote that long commentary missed the fact that I am  Rroma.

This being the main reason I am withholding judgement of the PEOPLE depicted on the show. My gripe with media doesnt start or end with fucking TLC, really.

True words. But, I still.. I just …

Anyway. I still think you’re awesome and I wish I had your… I don’t know what else to call it but goodness. As I said, I judge because I know how they got to where they are and in my eyes, they should feel ashamed.

I cant really judge anyone for doing shameful things. Ive done and do my fair share of them.

Activist prevents Israeli officer from arresting Palestinian child

During Sunday’s Jerusalem Day events, a Palestinian boy, perhaps 10 years old, was chased down an East Jerusalem street by a very angry officer of the Border Police. The boy tripped and fell, then picked himself up just as the Border Police officer reached him and tried to grab him. But a 22 year-old female Israeli activist prevented the boy’s arrest by throwing herself between the two, allowing the Palestinian boy to flee.

Jerusalem Day is meant to be a celebration of the city’s ‘reunification’ following Israel’s victory in the 1967 war. In practice, it is a day for Israeli nationalists, draped in flags, dancing in circles, singing and chanting (including the popular Israeli nationalist chant, ‘death to Arabs’) as they march through the streets of East Jerusalem and the Old City. Many of the Jewish demonstrators are bused in from right-wing yeshivas in Israel and the West Bank

This year, an Orthodox Jewish man grabbed the Palestinian flag from the hands of a 10 year-old boy and refused to return it. The boy, enraged, tried to prise it out of the Jewish man’s hands. A Border Police officer, seeing the struggle between a 10 year-old Palestinian boy and a fully grown Jewish man, chased the Palestinian boy rather than ordering the Jewish man to return the flag. Someone made a montage of the incident and posted it on Facebook, with commentary. Note the expression of rage in the Border Police officer’s eyes, as seen in the second photo.

In the end the boy got away, due to the intervention of a 22 year-old Israeli activist from Jerusalem named Sahar Vardi, who threw herself in front of the Border Police officer just as he was about to grab the child. Photojournalist Haim Schwarczenberg caught the incident.

The incident was also filmed and the clip posted on Youtube.

Im noticing something here….something of a trend. Israelis are generally described as being Jews. While Palestinians are described as being Palestinians. Not Muslims. A majority of Palestinians are Muslims, and a majority of Israelis are Jews…but there seems to be this disconnect when reporting that this bullshit behavior seems to be coming from Zionists, and Zionism, is…really like nationalism. It is a political, nationalistic ideology hiding behind a veil of religiosity. Yes, the man who took the flag was a Jew, but why describe him as such? To further the idea that Jews just HATEEE Palestinians? Why not describe him as an Israeli man.

The female activist was described as Israeli. Do we know if she was Jewish? Does it particularly matter? Shes not described as a MUSLIM woman, or a JEWISH woman. Her religion is left out, when the man who grabbed the flag is pointed out as being Jewish MULTIPLE times. Well, obviously to this ideology of pitting one against the other it DOES matter to leave out the possibility of a JEWISH woman (or Jew period. Ive seen that happen quite often in different media) helping a Palestinian child. We dont see this http://www.shoebat.com/2012/05/20/jewish-paramedics-help-palestinian-car-accident-victims-attacked-by-palestinans/  or this http://www.jewishjournal.com/israel/article/in_helping_palestinians_idf_paramedics_defy_stereotypes_20110526/ or this http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/jews-protect-palestinians-in-harvest-of-hate-956706.html reblogged. Why? When one is Pro-Palestinian and Jewish…they are rarely described as being Jewish. Why? I dont understand this. I mean…many of these right wingers are Jewish, but their religion seems to take a back seat to their right wing and nationalistic ideals. I think it is important to this issue to stop with the “Jews vs Palestinians.”

An Israeli who does something idiotic is Jewish.
An Israeli who does something not idiotic is Israeli?

This whole issue is a tangled web. But I firmly believe it is nationalistic hate underneath a thin blanket of religion…and that religion itself is not a core issue here. I could very well be wrong..but groups like the Neturei Karta and, well, history. Before nationalistic Zionism…Jews and Muslims lived together generally without upset. There are Jews living peacefully in Muslim countries. Since 1700 or 1800 BC..Jewish people along with other Semites lived in Palestine. They lived amongst one another. Under the Ottoman Empire Jews lived peacefully in Palestine. There was a great deal of migration TO Palestine from other countries during this time.

It is not with Judaism itself..but the rise of ZIONISM that has given birth to this pain. Nationalistic ideals are hurtful in many ways and we (humans) have been dealing with this type of ideology for a very long time.

I don’t know if Baba Yaga and the Italian Strega Nonna are at all related, but Strega Nonna was always sort of a mixed character the way I was taught. She gave coal to bad kids but…

According to Dmitry she’s mostly bad but has been known to show a soft side.
