hello, im lulu

Strength.

Takaci or Sila

Zojarla means to make strong.

Its time to make US strong.

Todays word is: sick.

Nambormo….or I think a more popular word for sick or ill is nasvalo

I am quite sick today. My throat is swollen and halfway closed, and my body aches. I dont get sick often, but this is the second time this year ive felt so badly. I am quite the home-body…meaning I dont get out often and I never drink. This week I got drunk twice and went out like every single night so..lol..needless to say I think I overexerted myself but FUCK IT! It was for a great cause!

(if youre reblogging this for the word of the day..feel free to delete my little input at the end there, lol)

Ive been super late on this, I know. I havent been keeping up. Its a bad habit of mine..but I try! It generally works best when I wake up with a word in my head or encounter something and I think “oh thats a good word ill use it!”

Well, ive got one for ya!

Devil-like or Devilish.

Bengalo or Bengano.

This is one of my favorites.

Thank you golden-zephyr, lookatthisfuckinggadje, and other Roma on tumblr. I follow some of you and am loving the Word of the Day that gets passed around. Reading about the differences in dialects in Romani has helped a lot for working on my own conlang.

As a Rroma I do not approve of Rromani being a conlang and I find this offensive and appropriative. Kinda makes me not want to do the posts anymore.

I have had a rough night. Lets just say I was listening to too much “Tears in Heaven.”

So, todays word..is pain. Pain as in grief. Emotional pain.

Dukh (doo-kh)

If something is painful, it is dukhavdo (doo-khav-doe)
If something is painful, emotionally..it is dukhalipe (doo-kha-lee-peh)

Si ma dukha. I have pain. Cidav ma..I pick myself up and brush myself off.

džulory ladžala: Romani Word of the Day

golden-zephyr:

I don’t know if there was one, I didn’t see one (maybe there was and I missed it… I’m sorry!!)

I’m going to do several words today (as suggested by my sis Ruby)

COLOURS~

Yellow - either galbeno or žuto (Gurbet) / žiltò (Lotfitka) / gelbera or gelbi (Anglo-Romani)

Green - zeleno (zelija)…

Oops I forgot to do one today!!

Alrightie lets see here…..

Yellow: Žuto

Green: zeleno

Blue: Plavo

Red: Lolo

Orange: Narandža

Black: Kalo

White: Parno

The colors seem to be pretty much the same! With the exception of ‘orange’ which is..extremely similar to the Spanish: Naranja!

Todays word is: Sunshine!

Its almost time for spring ^_^

Sunshine in my dialect of Rromani is:

Sunčano (soon-chah-no) …this is more like “sunny.”

Kham is sun!

Todays word is: Friend!

Friend in my dialect of Rromani is: Amal

A friendship is: Amalipe

I am doing this early (before I go to sleep) because I may sleep late tomorrow and forget!

Todays word is:

Free

There are different types of ‘free’ so, I will discuss them here and give words for each one.

Freedom is: sloboda (slo-bo-da) ..pretty easy!

Now, when you give something for free it is: besplatno (bes-plat-no)..easy too!

Sloboda is actually one of my very favorite words. I am considering getting it tattooed one day, in Cyrillic of course..which is: слобода

džulory ladžala: Rromani word of the day!

helloimlulu:

Todays word for the day is….

Beautiful.

Beautiful in the dialect of Rromani that I speak is:

Suzo (shu-zhoe). The “zh” sound is what I call a ‘light j.” There really isnt a comparable sound in the English language, but I suppose ‘zh’ is closest. Instead of saying Z like…

Suzo (shu-zhoe). The “zh” sound is what I call a ‘light j.” There really isnt a comparable sound in the English language, but I suppose ‘zh’ is closest. Instead of saying Z like you would in English, its lighter. Almost like “J” sound.

Another way to say beautiful is ‘sukar’ (shu-car).

džulory ladžala: Rromani (Rromanes) word of the day!

helloimlulu:

I am going to try to keep up with this, because I want us all to take part!! I am not fluent in Rromani, but I am conversational and I would like that to change.

From what I know, the dialect of Rromani that I am familiar with is either Bugurdzi or Arli (Kosovo) dialect. I…

Another word we have for sleepy is sovauno..or..according to romlex its “sovavno” but..to me it sounds like sovauvo? Maybe I am wrong. Anyway…id like to read up on why there are so many Rromani dialects and how they came to be what they are. Do you know any books that discuss things like that? Like…

How do you go from lindralo….to sovavno? Lol. Those are like two totally opposite ends..but then we have cino, khino, etc that are exactly the same!? I know that Serbian is sooo similar to Bugurdzi and Arli. Some of the words are exactly the same.

Well, I guess we just picked up words from surrounding dialects, all while keeping and maintaining many of our own…all across the board.

Today, I am very tired and sleepy! So I will choose the word “tired.”

 Umorno!

Tired is ‘umorno!’ (oo-more-no).

*I often use ‘umorno’ to describe being VERY tired. So, as a side note I will include ‘sleepy’ which is khino (kh-ee-no).
